Does hooping really burn calories?

Yes!  In our hooping class you will burn between 300 and 600 Calories per class.  The American Council on Exercise (ACE) recently compared one hour of Hoopnotica to one hour of “Cardio Boot Camp” (420 calories per class).  It is the perfect workout to tone your body and get your heart rate up.  For those of you who have had babies, hoopdancing is a super fun way to get your post baby body back into shape.

 

What do I wear?

Regular work out clothes are fine.  Once you start doing chest and shoulder hooping, bear arms are best so wear a tank or sports
bra.  Try not to wear synthetics such as nylon or rayon, as the hoop tends to “slip”, making the learning process more difficult.  You can either hoop in sneakers or bare foot, whatever is most comfortable for you.


Where do I get an adult sized weighted hoop?

There will be hoops available for you to use in class.  There will be a selection of beautiful hoops for you to purchase so you can practice your moves at home.  Beginner hoops will be available to purchase at class for $50. 


Why can’t I just use a hula hoop from a toy store?

The hoops you will find in a toy store are way too light to maneuver while learning hoop dance.  The smaller and lighter the hoop, the faster you have to move your body in a very precise manner.  Our hoops are weighted so that they will provide you with the perfect amount of momentum and resistance to give you a great workout.  We want you to be successful and safe.  Our hoops are built to tone your adult body safely and effectively.


I was never able to spin a hula hoop.  Is it okay to come to a class?

Yes!  The combination of having an adult sized weighted hula hoop and a teacher who can break down the movement for you will make all the difference.  Come in and give it a try!
